Trim a segment from a video without uploading to a server
Choose a start and end time to get only the segment you want, without the video ever uploading to any server. The trimming runs in the browser using ffmpeg, requiring a first-time engine download. In standard mode, the video is trimmed without re-encoding, so the process is fast even for large files and the original frames are preserved without quality loss, though the start time snaps to the nearest keyframe and might shift by up to two seconds. If you need frame-perfect accuracy, select exact trimming, and the video will be re-encoded at the cost of processing time. You can fill in the start and end times directly from the player position without typing.
In standard mode, not at all. The video is trimmed without re-encoding, meaning the original frames are preserved exactly as they are. Only in exact trim mode is the video re-encoded, which causes a minor drop in quality.
Trimming without re-encoding must start on a keyframe, and these appear every second or two. Therefore, the start time snaps to the nearest keyframe. If you need absolute precision, check exact trim to frame.
The processing runs in the browser memory, so files over about 2GB might fail. In practice, a video up to an hour long usually works. If you get stuck, try compressing the video first.
Currently, the tool trims one segment at a time. You can run it multiple times and save each segment separately.
Klix could not load
Try reloading the page first. If a new version just went out, a reload fixes it straight away.
If reloading did not help, your browser may be too old. Klix runs the tools on your own device rather than on a server, so it needs a browser from 2022 or later. What to do: update Chrome or Firefox, then open klixtools.com again.
