Percentage and VAT Calculator

Calculate percentages and add or extract 18% VAT instantly

A percentage and VAT calculator for everyday math. It calculates what X percent of an amount is, what percentage one number is of another, the percentage change between two numbers, and adds or extracts Israel's 18% VAT. All five calculations appear together and update as you type. This is the tool you open during the day to calculate a store discount, a restaurant tip, interest rates, success rates, or how much is left after VAT. When extracting VAT, the amount before tax and the VAT component are displayed separately, just like on an Israeli tax invoice. There are no popup ads, and everything stays in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do you extract VAT from a total price?

You divide by 1.18. For example, 118 shekels including VAT equals 100 shekels before VAT plus 18 shekels in VAT. The tool does the math and shows both the pre-tax amount and the VAT component separately.

Why is VAT 18 percent and not 17?

The VAT rate in Israel increased to 18 percent in January 2025. Calculations for older transactions might use a different rate, so you need to calculate based on the rate that was valid at the time of the transaction.

How do you calculate a percentage discount?

For a 30 percent discount on 250 shekels, use the calculation for what X percent of an amount is, which gives you a 75 shekel discount. You get the final price by subtracting that amount, meaning 175 shekels.

What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?

An increase from 10 percent to 12 percent is an increase of 2 percentage points, but it is a 20 percent relative change. This is the most common mistake when reading data, and the tool calculates the relative change.
